The Village of Thoré-la Rochette

The village of Thoré-la-Rochette: grocery store, doctor’s office, pharmacy (2 km), troglodyte houses, wine cellars, picturesque streets, House Wine (frequent exhibitions) and products from the Vendôme region…

Dominating the village, the church of Thoré was rebuilt in the 19th century on the foundations of a primitive church which probably dated from the 11th century and of which only the elegant stone bell tower from the 12th century remains (listed as a historical monument).

It can be accessed by a path carved into the rock, on the hillside, called the “pas des fidèles”.

On the outskirts of this church, there are some very old houses from the 15th and 16th centuries.

Thoré is also the homeland of Maréchal de Rochambeau who distinguished himself during the Revolutionary War of the United States of America, notably during the victory at Yorktown on October 19, 1781. His body is buried in the town cemetery.

His home, the castle of Rochambeau, remains a beautiful 13th century home (can be visited) with its troglodyte outbuildings.
